Good for
Food lovers, wine drinkers, couples and friends
The south coast of Cyprus is made for unhurried eating and drinking. From Limassol old town the wine villages of the Krasochoria sit less than an hour into the hills, and the coastal tavernas of Zygi are an easy run east for the freshest fish.
This three day trail keeps the pace generous and slow. Base yourself in Limassol so the old town is on foot and the day trips by car stay short, and leave room for long lunches and tastings where the kitchen or the winemaker sets the tempo.
Day 1
Morning
Start in Limassol old town with coffee and a wander through the lanes. The area is compact and full of small food shops selling halloumi, olives and spices to take home.
Afternoon
Spend the afternoon exploring the old town further, sampling a few light bites or shopping for bottles. Keep the meal modest so you save room for the evening.
Evening
Settle in for a full meze with the kitchen setting the pace. The plates arrive steadily, grilled meats, fresh salads, dips and cheeses, and the meal stretches long into the evening.
Day 2
Morning
Collect the car and drive into the Krasochoria wine villages, a journey of around forty minutes from Limassol. Begin in Omodos, where the wine museum sits among the stone houses of the village square.
Afternoon
Taste commandaria and Maratheftiko at source in a family winery nearby, learning how the grapes of these hills become the island's distinctive wines. From Omodos continue to Lofou for further tastings among the quiet lanes.
Evening
Drive back to Limassol with a designated driver behind the wheel. Keep dinner simple and early, or enjoy a quiet evening at the villa with a bottle from the day's tastings.
Day 3
Morning
Return to Lofou in the morning to watch halloumi made by hand in a village. The process is simple and slow, and many places will let you see the curds pressed and salted before they cool.
Afternoon
After the village, head to the coast at Zygi for a long lunch at a fish taverna. Order the day's catch grilled over charcoal, with a few meze plates of salad and dips to start.
Evening
Make your way back to Limassol as the light softens. A final stroll through the old town or a glass of wine near your villa brings the trail to a gentle close.
Itineraries
The numbered stops follow the day-by-day plan above.
Where to stay
A villa near Limassol gives you a base that is both central for the old town and convenient for the drives into the hills and along the coast. Unpack the wines, rest between meals, and let the days unfold at their own pace.
