Paphos sits on the western edge of the island where archaeology and myth meet the sea. The archaeological park holds some of the finest Roman mosaics in the Mediterranean, and a short drive along the coast reaches both the sanctuary at Kouklia and the rock where Aphrodite is said to have risen from the foam.
This three day plan keeps mornings early and the pace unhurried. Base yourself in Paphos so the harbour and the main sites stay close, and keep a car ready for the coastal run on day three.
Day 1
Morning
Begin at the Paphos Archaeological Park as early as you can. The House of Dionysus mosaics, a UNESCO site, reward the cool morning light with hunting scenes and processions still sharp after centuries. Walk the full circuit of houses and the nearby Odeon before the heat builds.
Afternoon
A short taxi or drive brings you to the Tombs of the Kings. The rock cut tombs open onto atriums that once held the dead of the ruling class, and the sea views give the site a calm that lasts. Take water and shade where you find it.
Evening
Return to the coast for dinner. The harbour area offers plenty of choice, and a slow meal is the right close to a day among stones.
Day 2
Morning
Walk to Kato Paphos harbour while the day is still fresh. The castle stands at the end of the breakwater, small and solid, and the surrounding cafes make a fine place for coffee as the boats move in and out.
Afternoon
Linger around the harbour and the lower town. Ruins and everyday life sit side by side here, and there is no need to rush. If you want a swim, the beaches nearby stay close.
Evening
Stay on for sunset over the harbour castle. The light softens the stone and the water turns quiet. Book a waterside table if you prefer to watch it with a glass in hand.
Day 3
Morning
Drive east to the Sanctuary of Aphrodite at Kouklia. The open ruins of the temple complex sit in quiet countryside, and the on site museum helps place the ancient cult in the landscape. Give it a full morning.
Afternoon
Continue to Petra tou Romiou, Aphrodite's Rock. Legend has it that the goddess rose from the sea foam at this spot, and the beach below still feels like the edge of the world. Walk, swim or simply sit with the view.
Evening
The return to Paphos is an easy coastal run of under an hour. Dinner near home, with time to talk over the stones and the stories of the day.
