Base
Aphrodite Hills
Pace
Gentle, a car for the sunset drives, otherwise slow
Best months
April to June and September to October
Good for
Couples, honeymoons, anniversaries
Aphrodite Hills sits above the western shore, close enough to the sea for a morning swim and far enough for quiet. The spa is one of the best on the island and the myths of Aphrodite begin only a short drive along the coast. This itinerary keeps the days gentle and the evenings long.
A car is useful for the sunset drives to the rock and the winery, but most of the time you will be on foot at the resort or strolling the harbour. Book the couples treatment and the winery tasting in advance, then leave the rest open.
Day 1
Morning
Start with a couples treatment at the Aphrodite Hills spa. Book ahead so you have time to enjoy the steam rooms and the quiet garden afterwards. A late breakfast on the terrace sets an easy pace for the day.
Afternoon
Stay close to the resort for the afternoon. Swim in the pool or take the path down to the private beach and lie out under the umbrellas. The grounds are designed for this kind of slow wandering.
Evening
Dine at the resort this first evening. Choose a table with a view of the lights and keep the meal unhurried. A short walk under the pines finishes the night well.
Day 2
Morning
After a leisurely breakfast drive west along the coast to Petra tou Romiou. This is Aphrodite's Rock, the place where the goddess is said to have risen from the foam. The beach is of smooth pebbles and the sea is usually calm enough for a paddle.
Afternoon
A few minutes inland brings you to the Sanctuary of Aphrodite at Kouklia. The ruins of the temple complex sit in a quiet valley of olives and carobs. Take your time with the museum and the open courtyards.
Evening
Aim to leave Kouklia as the light turns golden so you can catch the sunset on the coast road back. Dinner waits at Aphrodite Hills or in a simple taverna along the way. The drive is short and the views open out towards the sea.
Day 3
Morning
Keep the morning free for another swim or a second visit to the spa if you wish. By late morning set out towards Paphos with no particular hurry. The road climbs gently through the hills before dropping to the coast.
Afternoon
Arrive at a sunset winery near Paphos in the mid afternoon. Book a tasting that includes time on the terrace so you can watch the light change over the vines. Many of the estates sit only half an hour from Aphrodite Hills.
Evening
Drive on into Kato Paphos for dinner by the harbour. Find a table with a view of the floodlit Paphos castle and order a meze of seafood and local wine. Afterwards stroll the promenade before the short drive home.
Itineraries
The numbered stops follow the day-by-day plan above.
Where to stay
Our villas at Aphrodite Hills put the spa, the coast road and the Paphos drive within easy reach. Many come with private pools and terraces made for those unhurried evenings.
